The Current.

Wake up. But is it morning yet?

Yes, yes, it's 2015.

You've probably heard the phrase 'new year, new you!' so often by now that it's starting to take on strange new meanings. You may be counting sheep everywhere - and not just in your sleep.

The beginning of the new year is often called the 'traditional' time to turn over a new leaf, but in temporal, seasonal terms, it's probably the worst. We are deep in the middle of winter; it is dark and severly cold in my part of the world (Dublin, Ireland). If you're on the other hemisphere you're probably enjoying the lazy days of high summer, you lucky sod. But for me, and for most of my neighbours, the thought of eating salads or beginning a daily sea swimming regime is far from my instincts.

Most spiritual/earth centred traditions would suggest that the ideal time for new beginnings is the Spring, when you are working in tandem with the natural movements of the earth. New shoots, early blossoms, sticky buds: far better companions to the 'new ewe' than black mornings and biting frost.

This is still a time of reflection and planning. Despite the sensoral bombardment that is urging us all to start afresh and reinvent ourselves, if we listen to our deeper wisdom we might hear a voice that asks us to chill out, while wrapping up warm.

Enjoy the rest of your hibernation. See you all again in Spring.
